Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam 2K without a Ring plan: what still works

With no Ring Protect plan, the Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam 2K gives you Live View and real-time alerts, but no recordings and no memory card. 24/7 recording needs a plan plus an add-on. Ring Solo is $4.99/month.

The short answer

  • Without a plan you keep: Live View (up to 10 minutes at a time) and real-time alerts [S3][S4].
  • Without a plan you lose: every recording. Ring says a subscription is required to review recorded video, and events are only recorded after you subscribe [S4]. Ring's tech specs list no memory card to fall back on [S1].
  • The cheapest plan that brings recordings back is Ring Solo: $4.99/month or $49.99/year for one device [S2]. Ring Multi ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) covers every Ring device at one location [S2].

24/7 recording is a paid add-on

Ring's FAQ for this camera lists "24/7 continuous recording" and Familiar Faces among its features [S1]. Ring's plan pages, though, list 24/7 Continuous Recording as a per-camera add-on that "Requires any Ring Protect Plan", and Familiar Faces as a Ring Pro or Pro Intelligence feature [S2][S4]. Without a plan, neither is available.

The privacy shutter

Ring says the built-in privacy shutter turns off live video, all video and audio recording, motion detection and pan-tilt movement, and that everything resumes when you open it [S1]. Unlike a removable cover, it's part of the camera body [S1].

Specs that matter

  • Power: USB-C, with a 10 ft cable in the box [S1].
  • Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 4, 2.4GHz only. Ring recommends at least 5 Mbps upload [S1].
  • Video: 2K with up to 6x Enhanced Zoom [S1].
  • Age: Ring lists this model as a 2026 release [S1].

Ring's page gives two different coverage figures. The tech specs say 360° pan and 175° tilt, while the FAQ says 350° pan and 115° tilt [S1]. We couldn't tell which is right. Unverified

The free trial and what happens when it ends

  • A free 30-day Ring Protect trial starts when you set up the device, unless your location already has a plan [S2].
  • If you don't subscribe before the trial or plan ends, Ring says you lose your stored video recordings and they can't be retrieved [S2]. Download anything you want to keep first.
  • More detail on every Ring device: what still works on Ring without Ring Protect.
