The short answer
- Without a plan you keep: Live View (up to 10 minutes at a time) and real-time alerts [S3][S4].
- Without a plan you lose: every recording. Ring says a subscription is required to review recorded video, and events are only recorded after you subscribe [S4]. Ring's tech specs list no memory card to fall back on [S1].
- The cheapest plan that brings recordings back is Ring Solo: $4.99/month or $49.99/year for one device [S2]. Ring Multi ($9.99/month or $99.99/year) covers every Ring device at one location [S2].

Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) is now called Floodlight Cam 4K Pro
Ring's product page answers this directly: asked what the difference is between Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen) and Floodlight Cam 4K Pro, Ring says "Nothing. We changed the name, but the features remain the same." [S1] If your box, receipt or app says Floodlight Cam Pro (2nd Gen), everything on this page applies.
What Ring's FAQ says about plans
Asked whether a Ring Protect subscription is required, Ring answers "No." You keep real-time notifications and live two-way video, and the Ring Dashboard shows the image last captured by active devices. Without Ring Protect, "you won't be able to review any videos or images you missed", and you can't save or share them [S1].
Specs that matter
- Power: hardwired, 110–240V. It mounts on a wall or ceiling [S1].
- Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi 6, dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Ring recommends at least 15 Mbps upload [S1].
- Video: 4K with up to 10x Enhanced Zoom, a 140° horizontal by 85° vertical field of view, and 3D Motion Detection [S1].
- Lights and siren: 2000-lumen floodlights at 3000 K warm white, and a remote-activated siren [S1].
- Age: Ring lists this model as a 2025 release [S1].
Ring's spec sheet calls the Wi-Fi both "Wi-Fi 6" and "802.11 b/g/n", which don't match, since 802.11 b/g/n is Wi-Fi 4. We report the dual-band support and leave the Wi-Fi generation as Ring prints it. Unverified
The free trial and what happens when it ends
- A free 30-day Ring Protect trial starts when you set up the device, unless your location already has a plan [S2].
- If you don't subscribe before the trial or plan ends, Ring says you lose your stored video recordings and they can't be retrieved [S2]. Download anything you want to keep first.
- More detail on every Ring device: what still works on Ring without Ring Protect.
